Strategies for collecting rare fish, growing fast, and climbing the leaderboard

🐣

Getting Started

A few quick wins that new players often miss:

  • When starting, only use the goldfish till you get a better fish. The goldfish sucks. End Run once you get a few fish in your net and switch fish!
  • If you plan to play the game for any considerable amount of time, the passes are a must!
  • You can get 50% luck for liking the game and joining the community. It won't always show up right away, but it's worth it!
  • Always use your gems to open chests. There is no other way to spend gems and every unlocked chest adds permanent Luck.
  • Use Auto Farm as much as possible. The more time spent farming, the more fish you'll catch. New to the game? ▶ Watch the New Player Guide.

Luck Milestones

Luck is the single most impactful stat in Be Fish — both Legendary and Mythic fish are locked behind Luck thresholds, and nothing else in the game moves the needle on rare drops as much. See the full breakpoint-by- breakpoint odds table at Game Mechanics → Luck & Drop Chances.

General Tips

This is a farming game. The best way to advance is by leaving Auto Farm on 24/7. Combined with the passes active, you'll collect fish much faster.

Aggressive players love to eat others and try to grow. They are usually newbs on a Lower tier fish. As a new player its easy to get caught up in trying to outgrow aggressive fish and avoid getting eaten. Don't worry about it. Getting nets is what really matters. If it really bothers you, switch tanks.

The only way to beat aggressive fish is to have a faster fish. This is fun while active playing, but not so much if you have a terrible fish.

  • Speed is more important than XP stat. Unless the XP stat is much higher, prioritize Speed for higher nets/min farming.
  • General rule of thumb for best fish to use: Choose your fastest fish in the top 2 rows.
  • It is possible to get the Rainbow Betta Fish by spending roughly 2 weeks of 24/7 auto farming (with passes). This is one of the fastest fish you can get early on — ranked #45 fastest in the game. ▶ Watch the Rainbow Betta in 13 days video.
  • Getting eaten doesn't really matter and eating other fish doesn't really help you progress. Keeping Auto Farm on 24/7 is the key to collecting the rarest fish.
  • If you buy a private tank, you can farm in peace without any interruptions. This will require an auto clicker to keep you from auto-rejoining. Auto rejoin puts you into a public tank.
  • If you haven't bought all the passes, Revive and Revenge are a complete waste of money. If you have money for these, you can buy the passes.
  • Generally speaking though, Revenge is not worth it. Revive is 1/5th the cost, which nullifies revenge. Just go to another tank(server).

Spotting Auto Farmers

Understanding how Auto Farm behaves can help you identify AFK players, avoid false reads on "aggressive" fish, and navigate busy tanks more effectively.

  • Autos always prioritize food and never chase. They move in a bouncy zigzag pattern — manual players move in straight lines. An auto will never follow a single player into an area without food, and won't persistently trail someone else who is also on Auto Farm.
  • Even if an auto is bigger than you, you can chase it away. Turn toward it and move as if you're trying to eat it — it will divert.
  • Subtle AFK check: Move your fish in several quick direction changes and watch the fish you suspect — not your own. Autos will react to nearby movement and can be redirected this way.
  • Easy AFK check: Sway your fish side to side like you're dancing. Every auto in range will mirror the motion in unison. Manual players won't.
  • When multiple players are moving manually, autos crash into each other more and their paths get erratic — it can look like someone is chasing you. To find the actual manual player: look for the one fish whose actions make logical sense as a chase rather than a reaction. All the autos will be pointed in the same direction; only one fish will be actively steering.

Pass Priority (if spending Robux)

If you're going to invest Robux, here's the recommended order based on long-term value:

  1. 1
    Food Magnet
Doubles your food collection radius. What makes this #1 is a hidden benefit: Auto farm fish are less likely to eat you due to your increased collection radius, which will divert them towards pellets and away from you.
  2. 2
    Double Loot
2 fish instead of 1 in your net for each time you fill your XP bar. Doubles your fish collection rate.
  3. 3
    Fast XP
Fill your XP bar faster and get more fish in your net.
  4. 4
    Double Growth
Increases how fast you grow in the tank. Keeps you from getting eaten quicker and lets you outgrow aggressive fish.
  5. 5
    Lucky
Permanent +100% Luck. A minor boost, but every bit helps.

Leaderboards

There are 3 Leaderboards in Be Fish:

Most Kills
Ranks players by number of fish eaten.
Fish Collected
Ranks players by total fish collected in FishDex.
Rarest Fish
Ranks players by rarest fish collected in FishDex.
  • It will take some SERIOUS farming to reach the top of any of these Leaderboards. It is possible, but you must be committed.
  • There are quite a few players who farm 24/7. I'm one of them.
